Meaford is located in the heart of the Georgian Triangle Tourist Area. Sandwiched between Collingwood on the east and Owen Sound on the west, Meaford has the small town feel and close enough to major shopping. Meaford is home of Beautiful Joe Park , the site of the famous Margaret Marshall Saunders book Beautiful Joe. It is the birthplace of the North American environmental movement founded by John Muir, founder of the Sierra Club. The town is also the host of the annual Apple Harvest Craft Show and site of one of the province's largest Salmon Derby.
If you like the great outdoors, the cottage is just minutes from the Bruce Trail. Running from Niagara Falls to Tobermory, the Bruce Trail gives a beautiful view of the Beaver Valley, Georgian Bay and the many orchards that dot the countryside around Meaford. If you like riding the trails, the Georgian Trail, the refurbished rail bed that runs from Meaford to Collingwood, along the shores of Georgian Bay, provide a wonderful trip from just a few hours to a whole day. For the more adventuresome, Jolley's Cycle has built a nine killometre mountain bike trail behind Ted's Range Road Diner. The trail has both moderate and expert areas that cross through the countryside at the base and side of the Irish Mountain.
For those interested in the arts, the Georgian Festival Theatre runs every summer. This professional theatre company has been reviewed by the CBC and provides four to six shows per year. Meaford is also home to Harbourside Museum and a memorial to Group of Seven artist, Tom Thomson.
For the golfers in the crowd, the Meaford Golf and Country Club is open to the public and has one of the areas most challenging 18 hole golf course. Scenic City on Highway 26 also has 18 holes of challenging golf. For those who prefer a slower style, Talisman Golf, located at the Talisman Ski Resort, has nine holes of fun.
There is so much to see and so much to do in Meaford. Yet Meaford is just the beginning. Collingwood, just 30 minutes away, is home to Blue Mountain, the Scenic Caves, and Monterra Golf Course. Owen Sound, 25 minutes to the east, has much to offer including Inglis Falls, Jones Falls and Harrison Park.
